Garageland

This is one I just started yesterday, inspired to paint more by having my 12 year old daughter to visit, who loves art (and is one of my best critics). It’s a painting of a painting of a painting of the international centre in Vienna.

There is, of course, a bit of a story behind that. I first painted this scene plein air (from life) while I was standing in a vineyard at the edge of the city. I didn’t quite get it finished that day, and after that it languished on a shelf for a long time. Then a German friend messaged me to ask if it was still available, as he really liked it. So I completed the painting and he bought it. My partner at the time – and that’s another story – told me she was glad that he was very pleased with it, as she really liked it too and would have taken it otherwise!

So, I painted a second, larger version, for her. And now I’ve decided that I’d kind of like one for myself, so this is the third and largest version.

Work in progress. Oil on canvas panel. 80 x 40 cms.
